AI: 2025 Has Started With A Big Bang!

The theme for this year is clearly Artificial Intelligence or, as we humans refer to it, AI. But what is ‘AI’. Believe or not, in my earlier days of tech, the phrase for it we used was 'machine learning' ...

Back in the day, you input a selection of commands and the variable parameters of any task then let the machine make calculated adjustments to output the correct results. The difference now is that we have so much data on the internet that the machine itself, can go out into cyberspace, find what it's looking for, and compare the data to ensure the best response is returned.

The problem now is that there is a mass of false data and fake documents out there, so humans are still required to verify the information we build into these Large Language Models such as ChatGPT.

"We've all heard of ChatGPT haven't we?"

It leapt from nowhere to become last year's 'must have' accessory for easy/cheat content writing (not on my watch, my blogs are written by myself), but blog #100 was produced using Google's generative AI plug-in, known as Gemini, purely as a test for the quality of content against the two sentences I had spoken into the Web App on my smartphone.

The result was an A4 sheet (aka the December blog), written in literally a few minutes. So, in terms of time-saving, it knocked off about forty minutes of writing time and around a couple of hours in the usual reading up I do from my trusted resource pages relating to the technology industry. I still read the output it produced and then edited it before sending it to my editor for finishing and publishing.

Both the USA and the UK Governments have pledged the expansion of AI technologies and infrastructure. The USA has the big guns in the form of technology and financial giants such as SoftBank, OpenAI, and Oracle with an estimated investment figure of $500 BILLION.

"The project has been named Stargate which will please the nerds!"

As a direct result of President Trump's announcement that the USA will be a world leader in the development of AI, other companies such as Microsoft, ARM (a chip manufacturer), and Nvidia (world leader in Graphics Cards) saw their stock/share price increasing between 4.1% and almost 16% across the board.

Elon Musk has been pronounced the head of the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DoGE) and who better to lead this than the world's richest man and himself a Tech giant for good measure?

It will be interesting to see what the likes of Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates further contribute to the AI plans as they are the other big players in this tech arena!

One great use for AI is in a medical capacity, sifting through vast amounts of data for the comparison of tumours, growths and molecular/cellular irregularities is, of course, a benefit to saving lives.

However, a thought from me is that we must be cautious. It's all very well developing a machine learning device for this, and an AI chip for that, but what will be the real benefit to the human race?

"My personal opinion as stated in previous blog posts is that we are heading in the wrong direction!"

We have such a blinkered view of the world, but we cannot even stop wars, which are causing mass migrations, starvation and human suffering. Why are we ploughing billions into making technology better and faster which, at this stage, would make little or no difference to our daily lives?

Just because we can build something, should we?
