For example, a newer switch running gigabit ports sending data to newer laptops and PCs, also with gigabit ports is more efficient than trying to send data from a five-year-old switch with 100Mbps ports that the receiving equipment has to adjust the incoming signal from 1Gbps down to 100Mbps.
Also, due to the changes in power supplies, newer equipment may cost less to run, saving energy in the longer term. The same goes for Wi-Fi Access Points. As we enter into the Wi-Fi 6 genre, the units are far more efficient
The third point is the support from manufacturers for software/firmware updates dwindles after about three to five years as new models and platforms are released into the market. Routers and other equipment are constantly changing as power consumption becomes an ever-important topic.

You have to ensure that the recycling company have a WEEE certificate (Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment) and complies with the directives of this standard. Remember to look after all your work and home equipment to keep it running smoothly and efficiently at all times.
